Lakeside Beach
State Park offers an outstanding panoramic view of Lake Ontario
and surrounding farms and fruit orchards. No swimming is allowed,
but 274 campsites, four miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing
along the lake front, picnic grounds and playing fields bring thousands
to the park. Winter activities include hiking, cross-country skiing
and snowmobiling.

Old

Old Erie Canal
State Park is a 36-mile stretch of the 363-mile Old Erie Canal,
which has been designated a National Recreational Trail by the National
Parks Service. The terrain is woodland and wetland that present
opportunities for hiking, picnicking, horseback riding, bicycling,
canoeing, fishing, and snowmobiling. Several areas have footbridges
that aid access to the canal towpath where visitors can view the
remnants of stone aqueducts. The park offers reservable picnic pavillions
and carriage rides by appointment. Facilities such as the Chittenango
Landing Canal Boat Museum, the Erie Canal Village, and the Canastota
Canal Town Museum are involved in preservation, interpretation,
and recreation along the waterway.

Cold
Spring Harbor State Park

The park is
comprised of 40 acres of hilly terrain that offer scenic vistas
of the Cold Spring Harbor. It features a mixed hardwood forest with
notable large oak specimens that measure three feet in diameter,
as well as thickets of wild mountain laurel. The area is ideal for
observing spring and fall migrations of a variety of songbirds,
and is home to great horned owls and red-tailed hawks. The park
serves as the northern trailhead of the Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt
Trail that extends to Bethpage State Park and eventually the south
shore of Nassau County.

Verona
Beach State Park

Verona Beach
State Park, located on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake, is a picnicker's
and camper's delight. Shaded picnic areas and the campground are
adjacent to the beach with an excellent view of the water. The lake,
Black Creek, cattail marshes, and bottomland hardwood swamps give
Verona Beach one of the most diverse aquatic habitats in the Central
Region, and well worth a hike on the "Woods and Wetland" nature
trail. The winter season hosts snowmobilers, cross-country skiers
and ice fishermen. The eastern portion of the park is open for hunting
deer, small game, and waterfowl, in season.
